News - Cindy McCain, the wife of Arizona senator and 2008 republican presidential hopeful John McCain, defies her husband by posing for Adam Bouska's NO H8 campaign for marriage equality.
In a challenging time for US politicians and US LGBT rights campaigners, Cindy McCain is not scared to show her feelings towards marriage equality. Eventhough husband John McCain made clear to be opposing gay marriage during his election campaign in 2008, this picture shows that even the woman closest to him does not agree with this opinion.
About getting Cindy McCain in front of their camera, the organisers of the No H8 campaign say: "In the year since we've started the NOH8 Campaign, we've often been surprised at some of the different individuals who have approached us showing their support. Few, though, have surprised us more than Cindy McCain - the wife of Senator John McCain and mother to vocal marriage equality advocate Meghan McCain. The McCains are one of the most well-known Republican families in recent history, and for Mrs. McCain to have reached out to us to offer her support truly means a lot. Although we had worked with Meghan McCain before and were aware of her own position, we'd never really thought the cause might be something her mother would get behind. We have a huge amount of respect for both of these women for being brave enough to make it known they support equal marriage rights for all Americans."
Mrs. McCain follows in the footsteps of daughter Meghan McCain (below) who took part in the campaign a while ago. Meghan is an advocate for human rights and marriage equality.
Since the picture of Cindy McCain was published online, John McCain's office issued a statement saying the Arizona senator respects the views of members of his family but remains opposed to gay marriage. So that's what they call damage control.
